Have you heard?

The team building exercise that we planned months ago will be postponed to a later date. The title is the same one I used as subject of the soft announcement to all our colleagues. Until now, I’m torn between feeling relieved that we managed to buy more time to improve whatever it is that we’re going to do, but I’m also disappointed because this would have been over by Friday, and we can move on to other things after that.

When SN was asking for a consensus during the meeting, I honestly cannot voice out my preference because I’m really torn (and add the fact that I do not have any principle anyway). So the die was cast— we’re going to wait for weeks and weeks before we can push throught with it. See, we’re in transition with two new bosses and instead of the activity being made on the tail end of the previous management, they now wanted it for the new one. While I am appreciative of the interest and support of the new managers, there’s still a part of me that wishes to get it over with, and soon.

Another thing, and this could only be me, I am amused with how some people are obviously testing the waters especially when dealing with the new unit chief. It could be deliberate, it could be because of territory, it could even be simply an adjustment process— but I can very well see that there is an effort to get to the good side of the new boss. I don’t think it’s bad and it is not bad in some respects. It’s a management instinct, it’s a form of survival, I guess. I just don’t see myself doing the same. Really. I mean, let them see me for what I do, not for who I am. I don’t see a need for me to make my presence felt. Like, it’s been 2 weeks and I talked to the new deputy chief only once (to ask if he wants his complete name in all official correspondence) and the new chief has e-mailed me once (to ask for my team’s SOPs). I don’t think they can single me out from a small crowd. But it’s okay. I’m not in a rush. Anyway, I’m just amused with what I see in the office lately. These new managers are really new in that no one probably has worked with them this close before.

So anyway, the anticipation for the team bulding thingie is still on. I just hope everything will really be better. Maybe the universe did not want it to happen yet. Let us just wait and see.
